    Dr. Kim Alexander

    Founder and Chair of Clemson University's Institute for Global Road Safety and Security (IGRSS) and Program Director of the first of its kind Master of Transportation Safety Administration degree program. She is a Clinical Associate Professor and teaches in the degree program.  Dr. Alexander leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators focused on the human-vehicle-road interface. She has been with Clemson for almost 30 years and holds BS and MEd degrees with an EdD degree focusing on curriculum development and risk perception from Clemson University.

    As an educator and researcher, her work investigates the attitudinal, cognitive, behavioral, social, and cultural aspects of road traffic injury prevention and the underlying forces, with a focus on creating a safer human-vehicle-road system.  Her research experience ranges from studies on the influence of risk perception training on road safety education programs to behavioral influence program development for specific subpopulations (including children, young drivers, and military personnel). Dr. Alexander's expertise includes teacher training, leadership development, education research, analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation in road safety.

    Dr. Alexander is a C5/6 quadriplegic and in a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury she sustained as a passenger in a single vehicle, run-off-road crash in 1979. Dr. Alexander is committed to addressing the broader challenges of road safety and traffic injury prevention so all can embrace a lifestyle of safety and health. She is a nationally and internationally known leader in road safety and has authored and co-authored numerous publications, patents, and technical reports and has served as PI and Co-PI on awards totaling over $6 million. Dr. Alexander is the recipient of the 2019 WorldSafe Award, for their leadership in making our world a safer, better place.

    Terecia Wilson is a Magna cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wake Forest University, with Honors in Sociology and in Religion.  She successfully completed Duke University Governor’s Center of the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy and Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government’s program “Strategic Leadership for State Executives”. She is certified as a “Road Safety Professional” (RSP) by the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB). She is a past instructor for GHSA’s Executive Management Seminar. She brings 35 years of experience in traffic safety to the team, during which she served in various roles in the State Highway Safety Office, including serving as the Coordinator for South Carolina’s State Highway Safety Office. She served as Assistant Director of SCDOT’s Safety Office for seven years, and has nearly a decade of experience as the Director of Safety for SCDOT.  She managed the State’s Traffic Records System from 1987 – 1994. Professor Wilson is a two-time winner of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Award for Public Service, presented at the National Lifesavers Conferences in 1992 (for commitment and vision that set the standards for excellence in highway safety and resulted in innovative projects throughout South Carolina”) and again in 1999 (for outstanding leadership in advancing the SC Highway Safety Program, which is recognized nationally as a model performance-based process”). She was awarded the 2004 AASHTO President’s Transportation Award for Highway Safety for providing exemplary service to the states, furthering transportation safety at its Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    Professor Wilson is the immediate past Co-Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Highway Safety Workforce Development and has served on numerous National Cooperative Highway Research Panels as either a member or a Panel Chair.  She is a member of the Board of Advisors for the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders.  She served two terms as Secretary of the National Association of Governor’s Highway Safety Representatives (now known as GHSA).  She co-chaired FHWA’s Technology Implementation Group for Road Safety Audits.  She served two terms on the SHRP II Safety Technical Coordinating Committee, providing guidance for the Naturalistic Driving Study.  She also served as a Subject Matter Expert in the development of the certification examination for the Road Safety Professional Certification Program.
